August 2 and concludes on August 27. This program
offers research apprenticeships to 9th and 10th
graders from under represented minorities (African
Ancestry, Hispanic/Latino, Native American or Pacific
Islander). Approximately 30 students are selected
from an average applicant pool of 300. The term
offers four one-week segments of instruction in
physics, biology, chemistry, and environmental science. |

U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking public
comment on the proposed cleanup plan for BGRR at
Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). The public
comment period will be open from August 2 to September
3, 2004. The Proposed Remedial Action Plan for the
Brookhaven Graphite Research Reactor and its accompanying
Feasibility Study are available on the BNL web site
at http://www.bnl.gov/bgrr/Default.html, and in
the local libraries. Information sessions on the
proposed plan will be held on August 17, 2004, from
2 to 4 p.m,. and on August 19, 2004, from 7 to 9
p.m., both in Berkner Hall at Brookhaven Lab. A
public meeting will be held on August 24, 2004,
from 7 to 9 p.m., also in Brookhaven Lab’s
Berkner Hall. |

an on-site assessment of BNL’s Integrated
Safety Management System (ISM) from August 9 - 13.
The scope covers four areas: worker injuries, the
Chemistry Department, electrical safety, and hoisting

DOE team will include nine members, three from the
Brookhaven Site Office (BHSO), two from the Chicago
Office, two contractors with hoisting and rigging/electrical
expertise, and two Federal employees. Safety and
Health Services Division and the Quality Management
Office will be coordinating the assessment and taking
care of logistics, scheduling etc. |
