July 16, 2009.  The review and decision process has been completed for the Single-Investigator and Small-Group Research proposals. Ninety-five projects from universities and DOE national labs were selected for awards, and those proposers have been notified by email. Those not selected will be notified in the near future.  All proposers will receive formal notices and copies of reviewer comments at a later date.

May 7, 2009.  Proposals submitted in early FY2009 for Single-Investigator and Small-Group Research awards are currently under review.  The FY 2010 budget request for BES contains no funding for another round of such awards.  Principle investigators interested in the core research areas of BES are referred to instructions found at http://www.sc.doe.gov/bes/grants.html.  Proposers are encouraged to contact BES program managers in their scientific area of interest for additional guidance concerning submissions of preapplications and full applications.

March 16, 2009.  The encourage/discourage decisions for the Single-Investigator and Small-Group Research projects have been issued by email to those who submitted preapplications.  The Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009—signed by the President on March 11, 2009 (P.L. 111-8)—provides funding for this activity.  The encourage email contains instructions on how to submit a full application prior to the deadline of 8:00 PM Eastern Time on April 24, 2009.

December 16, 2008.  Nearly 900 preapplications for Single-Investigator and Small-Group Research projects have been received and are under consideration.
