Chemistry: For his landmark discovery of molecular hydrogen complexes of transition metals and for his pioneering research on their chemical and physical properties. His research has revolutionized the way scientists think about how the-chemical bond in hydrogen and similar chemical bonds interact with metals. This interaction is the basis of many large-scale industrial processes; and the ability to store hydrogen as metal hydrides improves hydrogen's prospects for use as an energy source.
