DOE Grant No. DE-FG02-01ER83269

Amount:  $100,000

Current and next-generation experiments in nuclear and particle physics require detectors with high spatial resolution, fast response, and accurate data.  However, current technology limits advances made in these areas.  This project will develop a position-sensitive detector that provides high signal-to-noise ratio at low cost and has excellent position, timing, and energy resolution.  Phase I will establish the feasibility of producing a solid state position-sensitive detector in large area and demonstrate the high-resolution detection of nuclear particles.

Commercial Applications and Other Benefits as described by the awardee:  High-grade position-sensitive detectors should find use in nuclear and high-energy physics, astronomy, and diffraction, and commercially in medical imaging and bore-hole logging.
